Keep Chadron Beautiful Accountant Job Description General Description and Nature of Work The Accountant for Keep Chadron Beautiful (KCB) is responsible for recording and managing the financial transactions of the organization. This role includes maintaining the general ledger, preparing monthly reports such as the balance sheet and income statement, and submitting quarterly reports in accordance with state and federal laws. The accountant works under the direction of the Executive Director and broad guidance of the Board of Directors of Keep Chadron Beautiful. This is a part-time, non-exempt position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change at any time by the employer. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Administrative Responsibilities: Maintain accurate and clear financial records in accordance with best practices for non-profits. Record all purchases, expenses, revenue, invoices, and payments in QuickBooks. Reconcile bank statements monthly, cross-referencing the books against bank statements and other source documents to ensure accuracy. Issue payments and prepare checks for the Treasurer's signature. Submit quarterly reports on time and in accordance with state and federal laws, including (but not limited to) Nebraska State Income Tax Withholding and Form 941 Employer's Quarterly Federal Tax Return. Prepare and file annual W-2 reports and Form 990(EZ), the Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax. Provide the Executive Director with financial information needed for grant applications and reports required by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE). Present monthly reports, including the balance sheet and income statement, to the Board of Directors. Public Relations Responsibilities: Represent KCB in a professional manner at all times. Maintain and develop working relationships with supporters, local businesses, and vendors. Education Responsibilities: Act as a liaison for KCB, taking advantage of opportunities to educate the public and share knowledge of KCB's mission. Volunteer Management Responsibilities: Work professionally with volunteers for KCB activities.
Education, Skills, and Abilities Required A combination of work and educational experience that enables the individual to perform the responsibilities of the position; a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, with two years of experience in office administration, is suggested. Experience working with non-profit organizations is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with Board members, staff, contractors, volunteers, and supporters.
